Turn One Off and Crank up Another One.

You are usually more than happy to turn off your boiler for a few months at the end of cold or cooler weather if you live in the far Northwest Suburbs of Chicagoland.  You may have already engaged in the annual ritual of turning off your home’s boiler for the summer.  If not, here are some things to remember.

1.  Boilers can actually drain energy during the summer.
2.  Turn it on every few weeks or so for just a bit.
3.  When summer sadly ends don’t forget to have it maintained and tuned-up.

Whatever your situation may be, if you have a boiler in your home and live in or around Elgin always think of Tom’s Plumbing serving the far Northwest Suburbs with expert advice, maintenance, and replacement of your existing boiler.  Check out tomsplumbingservice.com on the web for a myriad of services provided by Tom’s Plumbing.  Just call (847) 697-6444.

Plumbers that Upsell?

Is that really what you want?  According to Wikipedia, “upselling is a sales technique whereby a salesperson induces the customer to purchase more expensive items, upgrades, or other add-ons in an attempt to make a more profitable sale.”  Does that sound about as distasteful to you as it does to us?

If you think about it, you will find that you are being upsold every day.  Sometimes that is tolerable, even welcome ie: would you like a one dollar coke with that meal?  Is it really beneficial when it pertains to plumbing repair?  I mean, after all, didn’t you call them to fix a problem NOT try to get you to spend more money?

Our technicians are craftsmen…period!  They take great pride in the work that they do…not their wizardry at upselling.  We are Tom’s Plumbing, a tradition in the Northwest suburbs and the greater Elgin area for decades.  When you have a plumbing problem and want it fixed right away call us at Tom’s Plumbing at (847) 697-6444.

Getting to the Root of the Problem.

You may be dreaming of a comfortable yard in the Elgin area filled with mature shade trees in the summer and a show of foliage in the fall?  Trees are a beautiful addition to your home’s landscape, but as with many things in life, having trees comes with a price…in this case, tree roots that may clog your drains.

Here are some signs of roots clogging drain or sewer lines-

1.  Frequent clogs in your toilets and sinks
2.  Sounds of gurgling
3.  Water drains slowly
4.  Lower water pressure

The solution?  Have your drains and/or sewer line checked for runaway tree roots clogging up the lines.  If it is left unchecked the results will be disastrous!  One of very best drain cleaning and sewer inspection companies in Chicagoland is right here in Elgin.  That’s Tom’s Plumbing.  Call them at any of the first signs listed above.  Tom’s Plumbing at (847) 697-6444.

Clogged Pipes Come with the Territory.

Sorry landlords, but clogged pipes are just part of the rental business.  What about the tenants who pour bacon fat down the kitchen sink or think nothing of flushing diapers?  Don’t they share some of the responsibility?  Absolutely, but if you haven’t included a lease clause to cover plumbing stoppages, your responsibility to maintain the unit could leave you holding the bag!

Here are a few tips for landlords in the Northwest Suburbs –

1.  Have the tenant sign a plumbing lease clause.
2.  Provide basic clogging tools such as plungers.
3.  Avoid harsh drain cleaner.
4.  Treat your property’s pipes every month.
5.  Have a professional plumber on speed dial!

Not a bad idea.  If you are a landlord in the Elgin area you can rely on the company that property owners have counted on for plumbing problems for decades.  That’s Tom’s Plumbing serving the Northwest Suburbs of Chicagoland.  You don’t have to keep them on speed dial, but you sure should remember the name…Tom’s Plumbing.  Just call (847) 697-6444.

The Process of Modern Repiping.

The process of dipping steel pipes into molten zinc to galvanize them has been around since the early 19th century, and galvanized pipes are still around.  Today, there are better alternatives such as copper pipes.  Copper piping has a natural ability to kill pathogens.  If your older Northwest suburban Chicago house has galvanized pipes, replacing them is a good idea.

If your house is old enough to have galvanized water pipes, they could be contaminating your water.  Until 1986, manufacturers used naturally occuring zinc that contained impurities such as lead in the galvanizing process.  That is a powerful enough reason for replacing the pipes.  Also,  galvanized steel pipes tend to corrode from the inside.

Enough already!  It is time to call the repiping experts of the Elgin area.  That’s Tom’s Plumbing.  There are older homes throughout the Northwest Suburbs.  For your own peace of mind and good health call Tom’s Plumbing for a complete home repiping.  That phone number is one to keep handy for plumbing emergencies as well (847) 697-6444.

Is a Reverse Osmosis System Right for your Home.

Is a healthier lifestyle promoted by pure drinking water a priority?  For many in the Elgin area the answer is an emphatic YES!  Reverse osmosis is a water purification system that removes unwanted particles from your drinking system.  Reverse osmosis can remove many types of dissolved and suspended chemical and biological species.

Household drinking water purification systems, including a reverse osmosis step such as –

1.  A sediment filter to trap particles
2.  A 2nd sediment filter with smaller pores
3.  An activated carbon filter to trap organic chemicals
4.  A reverse osmosis filter, which is a thin film composite membrane

Enough of the technical and more of the practical!  Practically speaking, if you have a reverse osmosis system installed in your Northwest Suburban Chicagoland home it will help your family become healthier.  Let the professional plumbers at Tom’s Plumbing do the job and do it right the first time…guaranteed.  Call Tom’s Plumbing of Elgin at (847) 697-6444.
